As a retired principal, I can think of many kinds of funny misunderstandings, but this misunderstanding happened when I was a third-grade teacher.
Everyday, the children would have a journal topic to write about after recess. This particular day, the topic was “What I Look Forward to in Middle School”. One journal entry of a female student really grabbed my attention: “I can’t wait until I have periods.” Her mom was a teacher at the school, so I let her read it. We were both surprised her daughter would write that.
Her mom asked her about it that evening. The girl said, “Yeah, you know, periods like when we switch from class to class.” Her mom shared the conversation with me the next day, and we both giggled. Out of the mouths of babes!
