Retired Principal Tales

Taking One Day at a Time

Out of the Mouth of Babes

Saturday, the two littles and I were going on a road trip to watch their cousin play basketball. I was trying to get the cord in the car to hook up to the tablet, so they could watch a video on the way there. I could not get it to work, and the word slipped out. Ought oh.

From the backseat, the six year old asked, “Grandma, why can adults say cuss words, but kids can’t?” How do I answer that, I thought.

Finally, I told her that adults should not say cuss words either, but sometimes it happens, and I would have to apologize to her. So I did. I told her I was sorry for saying the cuss word. I then reminded her that SHE was not to say that word, and grandma would try her hardest not to say it again and that she could remind me if I did say it!
