Retired Principal Tales

Taking One Day at a Time

Running as Fast as I Can

I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks. Life is running full speed ahead. Basketball, baptisms, school pick ups, teaching, grading, and many other things are occupying my retired life. I haven’t even thought about Easter.

I can say that my puppy is also taking a lot of my time nowadays. Last week, we had an invisible fence put in to keep her from roaming where she shouldn’t. The old pasture field to the side of the house was one of her favorites. The Dogwatch lady came and put the collar on her this past Monday. She barked and barked at the lady. Finally, I put the collar on her. We put her on a leash to go outside. Mistake one. She never goes out of the house on a leash. It is one sure way I know that she will not do her business if she has to be on that leash. I’d probably feel the same way! She went over to the fence to start her outside adventure into the cow pasture, and was warned before she even got to the white flags that she needed to turn around because of the beep. When she did get a little zap, she went crazy flipping and flopping trying to get off the leash. The woman had her go to another area where my pup likes to torture the chickens. The chickens are safe. The Dogwatch lady left and told me to call her if I needed her. I know that my pup will learn by experience. We have been outside, even on that cold, windy day this week, and I’ve just naturally wandered and let her do her own thing without a leash. I can tell she’s already learned not to go near those white flags. I went to put a letter in the mail today and she just sat at the top of the hill. She then forgot and ran over to me before I had cleared the invisible line. She just did a double take and ran the opposite way. The fence is working to keep her safe. Thank goodness!

Wouldn’t it be great if we could keep our kids in like that when they are little? Hmmmm…naw. I wouldn’t do that.

Later…
