Taking One Day at a Time

Trunk and a Real Treat

This week, I attended Trunk or Treat with my three granddaughters. It was a beautiful, cool autumn day filled with the excitement that only Halloween can bring to young children. I loved seeing my grandchildren enjoy the evening as they went to each trunk and then to the carnival at the end of the line.

As I was trying to gather the three girls up and get ready to leave, a student popped out of the tent. At first, I did not know who she was, but then she talked and I recognized her voice. She was so happy to see me. She gave me a hug. It was a student that I had spent much time with in the office because of behavior referrals. She was so proud to tell me that she had not been in the office one time the past year. I was so proud of her. Maturity had set in, and she became in control of her actions. This whole conversation was MY treat for the night!

Helping kids become autonomous is a difficult task, but once they attain that goal, it is so rewarding. It reminds me of why I spent so many hours counseling and coaching those children who needed an extra boost.

These have been going to clutter. I don’t know how to stop that but I will continue to check clutter for your enjoyable updates!!!
