My Favorite People to be Around

Daily writing prompt
Who are your favorite people to be around?

Who are my favorite people to be around? I just think that it depends on where I am, however, my Granddaughters are THE favorites! I can be feeling down, but if I am around them, I perk up and enjoy their company. Now, mind you, they do not allow me to do anything but enjoy their company! No, really, they are such blessings. I love them all so much. (And if my kids are reading this, remember, I love you, too!)

Granddaughter 1 is in high school. She’s athletic, but concentrates on basketball and softball. She is a straight A student. She can be quiet, but she is funny, too. She beat Grandma up when she made her play air hockey. I couldn’t use my arm several days after that. She’s an excellent seamstress and has won state awards for her sewing. Granddaughter 1 is taller than me now, even though I am super tall. She’s short on words when texting Grandma sometimes. I will text her and ask something, and the response will be “yea”. No details. She is getting better though! I think I had a couple of sentences the other day in a response. She’s a blessing.

Granddaughter 2 is about to enter high school. She is active in a lot of organizations and plays sports. She plays basketball, track, and cross country. She’s on the straight A list, too. She learned to sew this summer with me. I can’t tell you how excited I was that she wanted to learn. This granddaughter is a smidge taller than me, too. She loves that fact! I think the texting gene runs in the family as she is short on answers as well. “Yea” is often a common answer if I ask a question. Not much elaboration is given with these teens! She’s a leader and is the definition of dependable and responsible. She’s a blessing.

The third granddaughter can be a firecracker. She takes charge and makes sure that grandma follows her mom’s rules. Usually, she likes everyone to follow the rules except for ….her. She’s the one that calls mom on her cell phone and let’s mom know every little thing that her sisters or grandma does wrong! Oh, my. I tell her she is not allowed to call mom when she is at work in the summer, but she sneaks down to her room and makes a quick call or text. She has a lot to say on the text! She makes me laugh a lot. She’s so happy-go-lucky in so many ways, but she can be a tad bossy to her sisters. She’s as smart as can be, in fact, all of the granddaughters are! This granddaughter will often give me a quiz when we are riding in the car. She asks hard questions! She is not very tall, but she is determined to play basketball. The improvement we saw this year was amazing. She’s a blessing.

Granddaughter four is a firecracker, too. She often says what is on her mind. Her mom gives her warnings when they go out to places about appropriateness. Sometimes those warnings do not do any good though! This granddaughter takes goats to the fair to show. She likes to play sports, just like her sister. Softball and basketball are her thing, BUT she is ten years old and is a Black Belt! I try to not make her mad! She’s probably going to be as tall as me or taller. It feels like I can almost look her in the eye. Even though she sometimes looks older, she still is a ten year old. That is sometimes easy to forget. She still likes Barbies. Of all the granddaughters, she is the BEST cleaner. She always cleans up the toys and organizes them before she goes home. She’s a blessing.

Granddaughter five likes to play Barbies, tattle on her sisters, and play by herself at times. I think she’s the most sensitive. She loves going to her sister’s ballgames and is out there at halftime or after the game shooting her shots. She’s only eight, but she can get it up there to the hoop! She plays softball, too. This grand is my dog whisperer. She’s the only one that seems to be able to calm my puppy when the pup gets the zoomies. I’d say she is going to be a gym rat, playing every chance she gets with her older sisters. She has smarts, too, just like the rest. Every time I get a chance to pick them up at school, the first words out of her mouth are “Grandma, can we go to McDonald’s?” You know what that answer is. She’s a blessing.

The baby of the group, granddaughter six, is in kindergarten. She is really active and always wants to do what her sisters are doing, meaning playing ball. At five, she can stand on one leg and dribble the basketball while bringing her other leg over top of the dribbling basketball. She’s something. This spring she will be on her first softball team. I’m sure that she will love it. Now, I don’t know if she will love it for the playing or wearing the uniform and feeling BIG like her sisters. haha. She loves playing Barbies, and following her sisters everywhere they go. When she is with me, she still likes to cuddle up next to me and watch Disney. I am so grateful I still have one that will do that! She has a big vocabulary for a five year old, and I am sure that she will be a future leader of something. She loves the “drop off” baby cat their family acquired about a month ago. Building blanket tents is also another favorite of this granddaughter. She’s a blessing.

What would I do without them?

Later….
