Taking One Day at a Time

Daily writing prompt
If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

My beautiful little cockapoo has a brain block when it comes to going potty outside. She thinks that when she is let out to go potty, it is merely playtime for her and the cats. We have six barn cats that she enjoys playing with daily. Coco seems to think it’s poo inside and play outside. Surely, she will figure it out soon. She is eight months old. I’ve tried praise, treats, and anything else I can think of to get her to go outside.

Yes, she does go sometimes and is improving, but if ANYTHING distracts her, it is all over. My daughter in law said she needs an IEP! Some of the things that distract Coco include the wind blowing, trucks going down the road, a leaf rustling or falling from a tree, a cow in the field grazing on grass, a ladybug crawling quietly on the sidewalk, a rock laying in the driveway, well…you get the idea! She’s as cute as can be, is good with the grandchildren, and sleeps all night without going out to potty with no accidents. She goes willingly when I let her out in the morning except if it is raining or snowing. This morning we have snow and frigid temperatures. There was no school for the kids, so I think that she feels entitled.

Coco does not want to go out today. Why should she have to go out in the snow and do her business when she can go in the warm house? The wind chill is below zero. Coco went out and took a look at the snow. She turned back and looked at the door. She did get off the porch to do number one. She was so cold and looked at me with her big brown eyes. I couldn’t leave her out there, freezing, especially since she had a haircut yesterday. I let her in and thought I’d let her back out in a couple of minutes. No, not happening. She ran to the living room and immediately did number two.

Maybe it’s Coco’s mom who has the issue. She’s ruled by her heart and those big brown eyes.

Later…
