Living a long life is a goal of mine. During my life, I have lived pretty clean. I have not smoked, drank, or done any type of substance. I think there is something to heredity and living a long life. My grandpa was 99 when he passed away. He lived on a farm all of his life and did not finish school. The exercise he got was the way of life that most experienced. No one back then had to worry about going to “exercise” class. because doing the work of living was physical by gardening, farming, and just a hard day’s work! He ate healthy by growing the foods he ate. There were no processed foods for the most part.
I said “pretty clean” for a reason. I had one fault: I have always loved sweets. Unfortunately, sweets have been my addiction. I was terribly overweight for a period of time. Some of that was due to the stress I experienced at work and with issues at home. I ended up with diabetes.
Shots, needle pricks, and monitoring my levels became a way of life eight years ago. Two years ago, my life changed due to a shot taken once a week to keep my sugar under control. I hate that I had to take it, but it has made a difference in my way of life. I am more active. The food noise in my head is under control. I have excellent numbers on my blood work. I have lost about 25-30 pounds and feel better than I have felt in many, many years.
Living a long life can make you yearn for the days of old. The older you get, the more you wish you could go back to the old days. I do not want to go back to the outhouse or no electricity, however. It can make you think about how you ever lived without a cell phone or a car. That’s when I think about the multitude of conveniences that Grandpa witnessed over the almost century he lived. I guess I have enjoyed quite a few of those conveniences and changes in the world myself.
I have seen so many changes in my lifetime. Watching black-and-white TV and color TV (when I was in second grade) are among my first “modern” technologies I remember. I remember having a “bag” telephone in the car when my children were small, which eventually led to cell phones. Now we have AI, and if some don’t use their brains instead of letting AI do things, we may eliminate the need for our brains! I wonder what my grandchildren will experience in their lives. I’m sure it will be out of this world!
Later…
