No internet, no TV…for three days. That is what I have been dealing with these past three days. Finally, I’m back online. Spectrum is not on my list of favorites at the moment. Surprisingly, there has been good and bad in that lack of communication.
Last night was our Christmas dinner. One of the granddaughters went to turn on the computer. I told her that we didn’t have service and she’d have to go and play. She made a disgruntled sound and went off to play. No TV was a blessing, kind of. It was definitely quieter than usual.
The kids divided around the house. The teens retreated to the basement to swap stories and play music. The middles went back to the bedroom and played. The two youngest stayed in the kitchen and played, well, wrestled their uncle and really were pests in a good way.
It was soon time to open their gifts. It was nice to see their wonder and surprise. One of the girls opened a kit of Legos and when she heard that her littler cousin loved Stitch, she gave her the set of Legos. What kid does that? The youngest is now 5. How many years do we have left of the innocence of this special time?
My oldest daughter brought “in it to win it” games. For instance, they played a game where they had to remember where the bows under the red solo cups were in order to claim them. Whoever had the most bows won. Then they played a game where they had to put the cups on their hands and then pick up cotton balls with them and place the cotton balls into the cup until they were full. The next game was way too loud for me. The kids had to blow through a party noise maker and knock the cotton balls off with their breath. That was LOUD! The louder the better for the kids, though.
My daughter and daughter-in law made a lot of good food. I ate more food than I have in a very long time. I am paying the price! My body was not ready for that amount of food! The famous Christmas slushie punch was gone before I could blink my eyes.
I cherished the time without the distractions of the electronics, however, I was aggravated with our provider who kept giving me the run around.
I could hear laughing and yacking among everyone all evening. The evening ended around 11. The house was silent. Can I have a do over? I want to enjoy it all over again. I love my kids and grands!
Later…
