Finally. I am so happy for Ryan Day, coach of the OSU Buckeyes. The team finally got the win over the Wolverines after four straight losses. If you aren’t a fan of the Bucks, then you do not understand how much the game means. It is more important than winning a national championship in many ways around the state.
Day has this monkey off of his back…til next year. His job is ultra stressful. BUT he does get paid a lot of money to be stressed out unlike educators who do not get paid well to shoulder much stress. I love watching freshman phenom Julian Sayin. He is a class act on the field and off of it as well. Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate are unreal. Some of the catches they have made this year have been crazy. I have never seen so many one handed catches by a college or NFL receiver in all of my life. (And that’s a long time!) Probably Indiana will be the next big challenge. I will not be able to watch unless they are twenty points ahead due to anxiety, I’m sure. Maybe Penn State will beat Indiana in the tournament. Who knows.
One sad note about today is that my daughter missed the game last year due to a test at the hospital, and this year, the store scheduled her to work 11-4. They KNOW how big of a fan she is. If they are in doubt, I will invite them to the house to let them hear her roar for and at the Bucks! She only works one day a week. Please tell me that they did not schedule her during this time on purpose. If you know where she works, then you will need to say something to her boss. The store did have the game on the radio, so she was sending me updates all afternoon when she could. I hope she let a big WHOOP WHOOP out at the store!
Watching the teams play in the snow reminded of the days of Woody Hayes coaching. Woody was unpredictable. Some of his most famous quotes came from the Xichigan rivalry.
Do you know these quotes?
Because I couldn’t go for three! (When the team went for two points instead of a point in a blow out win against Xichigan.)
We don’t give a damn for the whole state of Michigan! (Woody’s direct expression about the state and its football team which is now a song that the Buckeye Band sings regularly.)
Boys, they’re here! I didn’t think the SOBs had the nerve to show up! (Woody said this as the Xichigan bus pulled up to Ohio Stadium.)
and finally, one that Ryan Day’s team proved wrong last year.
You can’t claim a national championship without winning The Game. The only meaningful statistic is the number of times you beat Xichigan!”
Now it is time for Ryan Day to leave us with some quotable quotes for history’s sake! Let’s go, Coach Day!
Later…
